Pregnancy is a sensitive period for the woman during which her body undergoes very big changes. One of them is the deficiency in the daily needs of vitamins and minerals.

Folic acid
The most important nutritional supplement for the period of pregnancy is folic acid or vitamin B9. In recent decades it has been established by scientific studies that it is the key nutrient for the prevention of malformations, mainly those related to the nervous system, brain development and spine. The body cannot produce folic acid, so it must be obtained through the diet.
Iron, copper and zinc
During the nine months, the need for iron increases, the daily recommended dose of which is around 30 milligrams. Usually, it is enough to increase the consumption of iron-rich foods in the diet, such as lean meat, fish and fortified cereals.
Calcium for bones and teeth
Calcium contributes to the proper functioning of muscles and the nervous system, protects teeth and bones and participates in the formation of the skeletal system and the development of the whole organism.
Iodine for the thyroid
Another important mineral is iodine, which is present in thyroid hormone molecules and guarantees the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.
Omega-3 Fats
Omega-3s are essential fatty acids found in fatty fish and fish oil, vegetable oils, walnuts, flaxseed and legumes. The administration of Omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and breastfeeding can have favorable effects on the development of the child's mental functions, while their adequate intake reduces the frequency of postpartum depression.
