Guarana: The "magic" ingredient in every energy sports drink
Guarana (Guarana) is a tonic and stimulant, derived from the plant with the scientific name Paullinia cupana), which thrives in the Amazon rainforest and is very popular in Brazil. The fruits of the plant are bright red on the outside, but look like an eyeball on the inside. It is no coincidence, after all, that in Guarani, one of the languages of Latin America, guarana means "fruit like people's eyes".
It is known as a
stimulant with strong tonic and rejuvenating properties. Guarana extract promotes self-focus, mental clarity and well-being, as it is rich in methylxanthines, plant substances with nitrogen concentrations that stimulate the muscular system and reduce the feeling of lethargy and fatigue. Furthermore, it contains tannins that seem to increase the secretion of adrenaline, has antioxidants and activates the metabolism, contributing to the burning and reduction of fat.
What does it offer?
- Improves mental alertness, endurance in athletes, vitality, immunity, vigor and sexual performance (has been used as an aphrodisiac).
- Helps the promoting action of carnitine for fat burning.
- Soothes migraines, fights diarrhea and constipation.
- It acts as an anorexic (appetite suppressant).
- Due to the caffeine it contains, it is likely to be active when taken as a CNS stimulant.
For all the above reasons you will find it often used in products such as beverages, juices or energy drinks for the purpose of increasing athletic performance. Guarana contains a large amount of caffeine and mainly acts as a stimulant of the central nervous system.
