Relieve their tummy
Constipation is a very common condition in both adults and children. Situations in which it can be caused are
- Natural tendency: some children have slow bowel movements, which causes constipation.
- Habits: Many young children are too busy playing and put off going to the toilet.
- Restrained behaviour: A child may start to hold back after an unpleasant toilet experience, making the next visit to the toilet even more difficult.
- Change in the toilet environment: Change in the environment can affect the normal evacuation.
- Diet: A diet high in processed foods and low in fresh fruits and vegetables can lead to constipation. Children who drink large amounts of cow's milk every day may also have such effects.
- Disease: In a very small number of children, diseases such as the absence of normal nerve endings in parts of the intestine, thyroid insufficiency and certain other metabolic disorders can cause constipation.
