Lactose Intolerance

Strengthen the digestion process

Lactose intolerance is a fairly common digestive disorder with nutritionists even estimate that approximately 70% of the world's population, suffers from this condition.

What is lactose and why do we become lactose intolerant?

It is a type of natural sugar that is contained in milk but also in dairy products in general, which, however, needs an enzyme, lactase, to be broken down and assimilated in our body. If our small intestine does not produce enough lactase, then we show lactose intolerance. Since lactose cannot be adequately digested, it moves into the large intestine, causing the familiar unpleasant symptoms such as gas, abdominal pain and bloating. Of the people who are lactose intolerant, some cannot consume any milk or dairy products, while others can selectively consume small amounts.

The 4 symptoms, which are usually the main indications of the problem are

Upset stomach

When lactose cannot be broken down, it passes through the intestine, releasing short-chain fatty acids as well as gases such as hydrogen and methane. This is why cramps and pain in the stomach or lower abdomen appear. Bloating is due to the increased concentration of water and gases in the intestine.

Diarrhea

The occurrence of diarrhea is based on the above reasons. Even if you don't have diarrhea, you notice a sudden change in the frequency and the way your bowels work when you visit the toilet.

Constipation

The other extreme of diarrhea is constipation. It is a rarer symptom, but it is also a sign. The methane produced slows down the circulation of food waste in the intestine, thus leading to constipation.

Gases

The amount of gas varies from person to person and depends on the microflora of each organism. What is quite interesting, is that the gas caused by lactose intolerance is odorless.

At Lamberts and Doctor's Formulas you can find formulas specially designed to enhance digestion and treat the symptoms of lactose intolerance
