Vegetable Proteins

Sports and vegetarian or vegan diet

There is a large portion of people who for various reasons have chosen to follow a vegetarian diet and lifestyle. For all of them, there is an abundance of plant-based options that will satisfy the body's protein needs.

Sources of protein for vegetarians

The fact that daily meals include sufficient amounts of protein does not necessarily require the presence of meat. There are foods and meals that in combination supply us with sufficient amounts of protein to cover the daily needs of our body.

A good choice is spinach, which is mainly known for its high iron content. Beans and lentils are also very good sources of plant protein. In fact, 1 cup of lentils contains 18 grams of protein, almost as much as a medium steak. If you even combine them with rice, you will get all the necessary amino acids that you would get from a steak. Also, chickpeas, kidney beans or black beans are good sources of protein. Almonds, walnuts, peanuts and most nuts provide protein to the body, with peanuts being first on the list. Finally, you should not skip from your meal brown rice and oatmeal since they are also good sources of protein like quinoa, which in fact provides the body with all 9 essential amino acids that it cannot create on its own.

Plant proteins: nutritional supplement

Supplement companies, understanding the needs of athletes who have chosen a vegetarian, or vegan diet, have created formulas from vegetable proteins in powder but also a wide variety of formulations to improve performance, maintain muscle mass and increase energy levels during sports.
