Raw Materials

Find a wide range of pharmaceutical raw materials

Chemical compounds, such as acids, alcohols, esters, phenones and pyridines, produce pharmaceutical raw materials. Depending on the source, they can be natural or synthetic. Many active pharmaceutical ingredients previously obtained from natural sources are now synthesized or produced biotechnologically. This is because they are cheaper, safer and faster to man-made.

As part of pharmaceutical drug production, raw materials such as active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), also known as bulk active ingredients, are essential. In other words, these drugs are pharmacologically active and have the pharmacological effects they are supposed to have. For example, albimopan, sparfloxacin, sapropterin dihydrochloride, lanreotide acetate, nicotinic acid, etc. A pharmaceutical excipient is an inert substance that helps deliver the active ingredient, such as binders, coatings, disintegrants, and fillers.

A high quality standard is expected for raw chemicals used in the pharmaceutical industry. Their purity and the specific technical parameters resulting from the specific production process impose strict requirements on these intermediate products.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) recommends that first pharmaceutical materials be produced by manufacturers that adhere to ISO standards. The regulatory responsibilities of active pharmaceutical ingredient companies are to set requirements for quality management systems (ISO9001) and environmental management standards (ISO14000).
