Dry Skin - Atopic Dermatitis

Xeroderma: What are the most common causes?

Xeroderma can be hereditary or congenital. In dry skin, sebum production and moisture regulation are disrupted resulting in peeling, itching, redness and even inflammation. Apart from the genetic predisposition, the natural moisture balance of our skin is disturbed and dehydrated mainly by external factors. So let's get to know the causes together in detail.

Environmental conditions

Intense cold, heat, wind and dry hot air can be quite irritating to the skin as they strip it of moisture and attack its natural protective barriers. A problem that also occurs in winter and again has to do with dry air is central heating, while on the other hand in summer staying in air-conditioned rooms has a similar effect.

Hot shower

Prolonged exposure to water, especially when it is very hot, can strip all the protective sebum from your skin. So if after showering or bathing your skin feels tight, then it is definitely dry. So it is good in this case to shorten its time to a few minutes and stop using hot water. Ideally the water should be lukewarm to hot, and you should turn off the tap while soaping to limit your skin's exposure to the running water. A good tip as soon as you get out of the bath is to pat dry your skin and treat it with a body moisturizer.

Hard cleaning soap

Common soaps can strip away the protective sebum of the epidermal barrier and combined with our tendency to use them in large quantities and everywhere on the body, we succeed in intensifying the problem. Frequent hand washing, although it is hygienic and protects us from viruses and bacteria (even from viruses and the flu), can dry out the hands and lead to cracks and small wounds that open the way to infections. Such problems are more likely with harsh soaps, such as those containing alcohol and disinfectants that lather too much and make hands look surprisingly clean. The foam removes fat from the surface of the skin and dries it.
To avoid this problem choose mild, unscented soaps or, even better, products that say they are "gentle cleansers" without mentioning the word soap.

Pharmaceutical treatments

There are also some medications that have dry skin as a side effect. This category includes high blood pressure medications such as diuretics, cholesterol medications, and some acne medications. Taking antiandrogens and chemotherapy can also make the skin drier and more sensitive.

It is certain that with the specialized product lines for dry skin (and atopic skin) of Ducray, Frezyderm, A-Derma, Avene, La Roche Posay, Froika, Bioderma, Eubos and Uriage you will give your dehydrated skin the care it needs!
