The role of minerals in health

Metals... Their important role in our health!

Minerals are specific nutrients that the body needs to function properly. They are obtained from food, but it may be necessary to take them from food supplements to cover the body's needs when there is a deficiency due to a small amount of them or difficulty in their absorption by the body.
 
Calcium
Calcium is essential for healthy bones and teeth. It also supports the proper functioning of blood vessels, muscles, nerves and hormones. Natural sources of calcium include milk, yoghurt, cheese and small fish with bones, beans and peas. Vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage and Chinese cabbage also provide calcium.

Magnesium
The body needs magnesium to carry out hundreds of chemical reactions. These include responses that control blood glucose levels and blood pressure,  proper muscle and nerve function, brain function and protein production. About 60% of the body's magnesium is found in bones, while almost 40% is found in muscle and soft tissue cells.

Potassium
Potassium is a metal that acts as an electrolyte. It is required for muscle contraction, the proper functioning of the heart and the transmission of signals from neurons. It's also necessary for some enzymes, including one that helps the body convert carbohydrates into energy. The best sources of potassium are fruits and vegetables, such as bananas, avocados, dark green leaves, beets, potatoes and prunes.
 

Trace Elements

Trace elements are essential minerals that the body receives from food, but unlike minerals, we only need a very small amount of them. Despite their small dosage, they are still vital for good health and development.
 
Zinc
Zinc plays an important role in many aspects of the body's metabolism. These include protein synthesis, immune system function, wound healing, DNA synthesis. It is a mineral important for proper development during pregnancy, childhood and adolescence.

Iron
More than half of the iron in the body is found in red blood cells. It is an important part of hemoglobin, a protein that carries oxygen to tissues. Also, iron is part of other proteins and enzymes that keep your body healthy.

Chromium
Helps insulin regulate glucose (blood sugar) levels and can be found in liver, whole grains, nuts and cheese.

Copper
Helps in the formation of bones and cartilage. At the same time, it helps the body to use iron properly. Copper can be found in beef, fruits, vegetables, nuts and beans.
 
Fluorine
It is a trace element that contributes to the formation of bones and teeth and helps prevent their wear and tear. It can be found in fish, some teas, and water that is either naturally fluoridated or has fluoride added to it.
 
Manganese
Manganese is an enzyme that your body needs in small amounts. It is required for the normal functioning of the brain, nervous system and many of the body's enzyme systems.
 
Iodine
Most people get iodine from iodized salt, since iodine deficiency is the leading cause of impaired cognitive development in children worldwide.

Selenium
Selenium is an antioxidant found in grains, meat and seafood. Antioxidants are molecules that can help protect cells from external attacks.
