The term urinary tract infection actually refers to a group of infections (infections) of the urinary system caused by pathogenic microorganisms. The infection is caused by fungi or bacteria that settle in parts of our urinary tract, with E.coli responsible for 80-85% of infections. Most often, the infection is located in the bladder, it is the so-called cystitis, in men prostatitis and urethritis are more common.

What symptoms?

• Burning sensation during urination
• Frequent or strong need to urinate
• Pain or pressure in the lower abdomen
• Curdy, dark, foul-smelling urine
• Fatigue or chills

Where is it due?

A UTI is usually caused by germs entering the bladder where they multiply. It is observed more often in women, as due to anatomy, the urethra has a shorter length compared to men.

How does Cranberry help?

The cranberry, the small red fruit, is  the natural solution for urinary tract infections. Its main active ingredient is the antioxidant substances proanthocyanidins, which act by detaching the microbe from the walls of the bladder vessels. It has been proven in a clinical study by Harvard University Medical School that cranberry significantly reduces the number of microbes in the bladder and even reduces the recurrence of the infection by 60%. 

Mannose for regrowth protection

Mannose is used to treat and prevent UTI recurrences. Studies show that mannose can maintain and support a healthy urinary system by inhibiting the attachment of pathogenic organisms to the surface of the host tissue. The bacterium sticks to the membrane of natural sugar (mannose) and is expelled from the body during urine excretion.

Probiotics and their role in urinary tract infection

With the term probiotics we refer to the "good" bacteria that our body needs. Their main role is to regulate the microflora in the intestine, but also in the vagina and to strengthen our immunity. There is limited research showing that women who consumed probiotics had up to an 80% reduced risk of developing a UTI, so further research is being conducted in this direction.
