What is glutamine?

Glutamine is the most abundant natural non-essential amino acid in humans body making up 61% of all amino acids in the body and is located in blood, muscles, intestinal tract, brain and liver. It is found in many foods such as meat, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes and some vegetables.

It is very important source of energy performing a number of essential functions for the organism. It stimulates the immune system, reduces inflammation and protects muscle cells from injuries during exercise vigorous exercise. Glutamine also plays an important role in maintaining the health of the gastrointestinal tract high levels thus contributing to the good overall functioning of the immune system.

Glutamine and benefit in exercise

Glutamine is the most important component of muscle proteins and helps repair and build muscle. Its benefits in exercise can be summarized below
  • It has been linked to protein synthesis. It prevents muscles from catabolismin order to provide glutamine for other cells in the body.
  • It helps to maintain the hydration volume of the cells and to acceleration of healing and recovery of wounds and burns.
  • It replenishes the reduced levels of glutamine during the intense workouts.
  • It can help produce growth hormone levels
  • It can serve to boost your immune system. For bodybuilders this is important since the hard workouts tend to significantly deplete glutamine levels. Glutamine is the main energy source for your immune system system.)
  • It has the ability to "repair the gut" while maintaining its structure intestinal integrity.

For all the above reasons, glutamine can prove to be particularly useful for "writing" period.

Although increasing glutamine intake can be done through food, it is practically difficult to consume the required amounts, especially before and after exercise. This makes glutamine in supplement form an ideal choice.
